Marva's Kitchen, based in the Brecon Beacons, Wales, is a small company started by Marva Lord. She makes cakes, jams, jellies, chutneys, sauces, as well as Caribbean and other savoury dishes which she sometimes sells at local markets. She became known for the fancy cakes she made for the legendary Lost Bus Restaurant and Cafe a couple of years ago. Marva produces fresh handmade cakes and other pastries, vegetarian dishes and savoury sauces to order.
A new food producer in the region - part of the communities of Llanigon, Glasbury, Talgarth and Hay on Wye - Marva has been a passionate foodie since her childhood in rural Ontario, Canada, originally from Jamaica. Her foodie explorations include Caribbean, Victorian, Asian, and other world cultural culinary delights!
Diet restrictions such as diabetic, wheat-free and vegan dishes are made to order, separately from other menu items.
Maintaining a quality product is important, so unique, handmade, small batches is the norm. Processing preserves, Marva uses the boiling hot water canning bath method and also sterilizes the clean jars in a hot fan assisted oven. Marva's food preparation includes fresh ground spices and herbs. The results are flavourful and irresistible. Registered with Powys County Council, Marva has completed the basic food hygiene course.
Most ingredients are either from her own garden including damson plums, apples, and pear trees; or purchased from local sellers such as Farmers' Markets, local vegetable and fruit producers, and small local green grocers or whole food sellers.
